Many of us long to have a life that is full of peace. We may start our day in a peaceful state, but as the day wears on, stress and anxiety rear their ugly heads and try to steal our peace. How can we stay in a peaceful state in our daily lives? We can start by singing a song of praise to our heavenly Father.
Praising God when our physical circumstances are stealing our peace is an act of faith. Glorifying God over our circumstances shows God that we have full confidence in Him and in His Word. Proverbs 3:5-6 says to “trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths (NKJV).” When we feel like complaining about our situation, and instead put our trust in the Lord and offer up a song of gratitude and thanksgiving, we will see our moods lifted and our attitudes change almost instantly. We can fight our battles by praising God, and this praise is our shield of faith with which we will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one (Hebrews 6:16).
Romans 8:28 tells us that God will work all things together for good to those who love Him and have been called according to His purpose. When something comes against us to steal our peace or our joy, we can take a step of faith by singing a song of praise that shows God that we are not going to allow our physical circumstances to be greater than what His Word says.
Psalm 96 tells us how to praise the Lord; in the first verse it says to “Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.” We will see a mighty change occur in our lives when we choose to praise God through the difficult parts of our day. This act of faith clearly shows the Lord that our hearts are focused on Him even if our mind is telling us to focus on the problems at hand. And when we trust in Him with all of our hearts, then He will make a straight path for us. We can praise God by raising our voices in praise of His name (Psalm 69:30). Sing to him; our worship is our praise! Enjoy a peace filled life every day by singing a song of praise.
The Truth in Action: Worship is an important aspect of our Christian walk. God enjoys our worship and we are told in His Word to sing to the Lord. Too often though we allow the problems of our everyday lives to take precedence over our trust in God. The next time you are feeling stressed or defeated, stop what you are doing, play your favorite worship songs, and sing a song of praise to the Lord. I guarantee that it will elevate your mood and change your attitude.
Meditate on Scripture: Psalms 101:1 (NKJV) – I will sing of mercy and justice; To You, O Lord, I will sing praises.
Further Study: Read 2 Chronicles 20:1-23. This is the account of a great multitude coming against King Jehoshaphat and all of Judah. Jehoshaphat looked to the Lord to help Him overcome the tribes that were set to attack him. The Lord was faithful and told Jehoshaphat that this was not his battle to fight, but the Lord’s. Jehoshaphat was obedient to God and instead of sending out his best troops to fight the enemy, he sent out those who were to sing to the Lord and praise Him. When they began to sing and praise, the Lord moved against Judah’s enemies and routed them. This is an amazing example of what God will do for us when we place our trust in His Word and when we sing songs of praise to fight our battles.
