Our Good Father

Our Father in heaven is a good and loving Father.  He offers us so much and His desire is for us to know Him intimately through his Son Jesus.  We have the opportunity, daily, to see God work in our lives if we allow Him. And when we do, when we truly seek Him first, all of the cares of the world dissipate and we are left we nothing less than joy, peace, and most importantly love.  This is something that you can count on occurring if you are seeking God first in your life. We have a good, good Father, and He wants us to know Him.

God’s nature is goodness and love.  The world has promoted a misconception about God.  Many believe that God requires us to follow strict rules and if we don’t His anger will be poured out on us through sickness or other bad things.  This misconception of our good Father has kept many from accepting Jesus as their Savior. This misconception has also kept many believers in bondage and has kept them from receiving the blessings God longs to pour out on them.  God does not act out of anger, He is never even angry with us, He acts only out of love for us. He is always with us guiding us gently with His righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10) and speaking to us lovingly with His still small voice (I Kings 19:12).  He longs to be gracious to us (Isaiah 30:18). He loved us so much that He sent His only Son to take away the sins of the world so that we could have direct communion with Him (I John 4:9). This is the heart of our good, good Father.

God wants us all to turn to Him and to see His loving goodness.  He wants us to fully rely on Him so that He can provide for us the life He has had planned for us since He formed us in the womb (Jeremiah 1:5).  God has nothing but good in store for us. In Jeremiah 29:11 it says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Trust in the goodness of our loving Father. Cry out to Him, Abba, Father, and be released from bondage and adopted into sonship (Romans 8:15).  God is calling to you through His gentle and kind ways. There is nothing that we can do to earn His grace, it is freely given.  Freely receive it today through Christ Jesus and be blessed with all that the Father has for you.

Take Action – Ask God to reveal to you some of the misconceptions you might have about our good Father.  Ask God to reveal to you where these misconceptions come from. Ask God to give you a revelation of His true nature.  God longs for you to know Him. He will answer when you call out to Him.

Meditate on Scripture

Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV) – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Romans 8:28 (NIV) – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Further Study – Read Deuteronomy 28:1-14 – Deuteronomy 28 lists the blessings of obedience and the curses for disobedience.  These blessings and curses fall under the old covenant. The curses were broken by the blood of Jesus, and today Christians operate under a new covenant ushered in by the death and resurrection of Jesus. However, our good Father still makes available to us the blessings of Deuteronomy 28. Understand what God wants for you today; know that His nature is to bring blessings upon you.
